The article, titled “Malaysia – an important partner of Uzbekistan in the region,” highlighted a reception in Kuala Lumpur marking the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.
At the event, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Karomiddin Gadoev, noted that Malaysia was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s independence in 1991. Diplomatic relations were formally established on 21 January 1992. He emphasized that bilateral ties have reached a new level, underpinned by large-scale joint projects and high-level engagement.
Bernama recalled that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim paid an official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2024 – the first in 16 years – while President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Malaysia in February 2025, marking the first such trip by an Uzbek head of state in two decades.
Currently, more than 40 projects involving Malaysian partners, valued at over $5 billion, are set to be implemented in Uzbekistan.
