Mirziyoyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discuss expanding strategic partnership

At the Congress Center of the Awaza National Tourist Zone, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan. The meeting was held first in a one-on-one format and then with the participation of official delegations.

At the start of the conversation, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. In turn, Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated the Turkmen side on the successful hosting of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which took place earlier this month in Awaza.

The sides discussed issues of further strengthening friendship, good-neighborliness, and strategic partnership, noting the dynamic development of mutually beneficial cooperation. Since the beginning of the year, bilateral trade turnover has amounted to $700 million. A free trade regime has been in place since February, with trade houses opened in both capitals. Joint projects are underway in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, water management, and other sectors of the economy.

Work is nearing completion to launch the Shavat – Dashoguz trade zone later this year. The leaders also emphasized the importance of productive meetings of intergovernmental commissions, the Business Council, and a series of cultural events in preparation for upcoming high-level encounters.

Special attention was given to the agenda of the Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. In this context, the practical significance of the ongoing trilateral dialogue in the Azerbaijan – Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan format was underlined.
