On January 7, following joint operational events conducted by employees of the Interior Ministry and the State Security Service, the criminal activity of religious extremist movement Jihadists, whose activities are prohibited in the Republic of Uzbekistan, was prevented.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, these persons on the territory of Uzbekistan carried out instructions from members of the terrorist organization, who took refuge in Syria, conducted illegal campaigns among the population, disseminated the ideas of Jihadists and also conducted illegal actions to replenish their ranks.

In addition, the above persons called on young people to become adherents of their dogmatic ideology, campaigning to commit crimes by joining the ranks of international terrorist organizations in Syria. It was established that the detainees had extremist materials that were seized in a procedural manner.

To date, criminal cases have been opened against detainees under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Investigative-operational actions are underway.

It should be recalled that by the Supreme Court decision of September 26, 2016, the religious-extremist movement Jihadists was included in the list of organizations prohibited in Uzbekistan.

“By warning our citizens, especially young people, in order to prevent violation of the law, we ask you not to fall under the influence of harmful ideologies, not to be deceived by the propaganda of dubious sites on social networks, not to use or disseminate materials that threaten public order,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
