Uzbek national wanted for 25 years over terrorism links brought back from abroad
A citizen of Uzbekistan who had been wanted for more than 25 years for links to international terrorist organizations was detained abroad and brought back to the country following joint special-operation measures carried out by Uzbekistan’s State Security Service in cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies.
The individual, who supported the ideas of radical extremist movements, left Uzbekistan in 1999 and took part in combat operations within international terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.
The suspect, who had been hiding using forged documents issued in another person’s name, was apprehended in one of the CIS member states.
He is currently under investigation within a criminal case opened under articles 154 (mercenarism), 155 (terrorism), 159 (attack on Uzbekistan’s constitutional order) and other relevant provisions of the Criminal Code.
Authorities stressed that in a country where the rule of law prevails, the inevitability of punishment applies to every crime committed.
