The SAT is an international test covering mathematics and English.
Most group members were reportedly students at the Tashkent branch of a European university, while another was a student at a branch of an Asian university. The group allegedly set up a “bunker” at a private school in Tashkent’s Yangihayot district.
According to authorities, an IT specialist covertly accessed the testing system, allowing exams to be taken remotely. Other members of the group then allegedly answered test questions remotely on behalf of applicants.
One member allegedly offered SAT certificates to five applicants for $1,500 each and received one of the payments through a cryptocurrency wallet.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 168 of the Criminal Code (Fraud). The investigation is ongoing.
