Uzbekistan appoints new ambassador to Turkey

Ilkhom Khaydarov, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, has been appointed as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey.

Upon his arrival in Ankara, Khaydarov presented copies of his credentials to Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu, Chief of the Protocol Department at Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunyo news agency reported.

During the meeting at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed the prospects for further strengthening the Uzbek-Turkish comprehensive strategic partnership. Topics included multilateral cooperation within international organizations – specifically Uzbekistan’s participation in the upcoming 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled for June 21–22 in Istanbul.

They also addressed plans to organize reciprocal visits and joint events at various levels, including political consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries.

The two parties exchanged views on the development of trade and economic cooperation, intensification of business-to-business ties, and the expansion of collaboration in cultural, humanitarian, and tourism sectors.

Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu wished Khaydarov success in his diplomatic mission and expressed Turkey’s readiness to provide full support in facilitating direct engagement with Turkey’s Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) in Istanbul.

Before his new appointment, Ilkhom Khaydarov served as Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister. He also previously held the position of Chairman of the Uztekstilsanoat Association and led Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission to Ukraine.

Khaydarov succeeds Alisher Agzamkhodjaev, who has recently been elected Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments, and Tourism.
