Uzbekistan and Japan discuss collaborative projects to support Afghan development
The Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, met with Tetsuya Yamada, the Director General of the South Asia Department at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss regional stability and humanitarian efforts.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both parties reviewed the potential for launching joint projects aimed at the socio-economic recovery of Afghanistan. The discussions centered on leveraging Uzbekistan's logistical capabilities to facilitate international aid and development.
Tetsuya Yamada voiced Japan's appreciation for the pragmatic foreign policy maintained by Uzbekistan regarding its southern neighbor. He specifically noted the advanced infrastructure established in the city of Termez, which serves as a critical gateway for humanitarian assistance.
JICA expressed a strong interest in using this infrastructure to implement socially significant projects. The proposed cooperation spans several vital sectors, including:
Improvements in education and public healthcare systems
Modernization of agricultural practices to ensure food security
Support for private sector growth to stimulate the local economy
Collaborative efforts to combat drug trafficking
The primary goal of these initiatives is to improve the overall well-being of the Afghan people through sustainable, long-term development.
