Uzbekistan, Russia to cooperate in military-technical sphere

Uzbekistan plans to develop comprehensive cooperation with Russia in military-technical sphere. Defense Minister of Uzbekistan, Major General Abdusalom Azizov, has announced it at a meeting with the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Interfax reports.

"We are very pleased to see our friends here. First of all, I would like to emphasize that the meetings of our state leaders have given a new stimulus to cooperation in defense. This year, the defense ministries of both sides have done a lot for mutually beneficial cooperation," Azizov said.

"Continuing close cooperation in military and technical spheres, we are actively participating in exercises in the Russian Federation. The Russian side, in the meantime, is helping to train our personnel," he added.

According to the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, more than 340 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan have begun studying at military educational institutions of the Russian Federation this year, which has become the largest indicator of foreign admissions in the educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense.

He noted that the Russian military servicemen are satisfied with the positive dynamics of cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and Uzbekistan.

"The demanded rate was determined in May this year in compliance with the agreements reached in Tashkent. This, in the first instance, envisages joint measures to provide and train military personnel," said the head of the Russian Defense Ministry.

It was reported that the defense ministers agreed on the mutual use of the airspace by military aircraft of both countries.

The treaty also provides immediate solution to issues related to the transportation of military cargoes and military transport planes to make non-stop flights.

In addition, the heads of military departments of the two countries signed a plan of cooperation between Defense Ministries for 2019.
