Uzbekistan intends to take charge of the CIS chairmanship for the first time
Uzbekistan, for the first time, intends to oversee the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States since its establishment. On November 2, at the meeting of CIS Council of government heads, the Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev announced about it.
As he stated, Uzbekistan intends to lead the Commonwealth in 2020.
“Our Uzbek friends are preparing themselves responsibly to their chairmanship and taking various initiatives from early now. Today, the Uzbek delegation has made a number of proposals to hold the CIS Forum in Uzbekistan. They are offering to convene a financial and banking Forum of the CIS at the end of March 2019, possibly on March 28-29,” the Executive Secretary said.
The CIS was established in 1991. Uzbekistan joined the Organization in January 1992.
