Uzbekistan may become an observer at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly

Uzbekistan may be granted an observer status at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. This was announced by State Duma Speaker, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin at a meeting with the head of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Nigmatilla Yuldashev.
 
"We may consider the possibility of your country participating as an observer within the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly,” Mr. Volodin said. 
 
At present, the National Assembly of Serbia, “Wolesi Jirga” of the National Assembly of Afghanistan, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia have observer status at the CSTO PA.
 
According to Mr. Volodin, within the framework of this parliamentary format, they could discuss issues of legislative support for solving security problems and combating drug trafficking and consider adopting model laws in these areas

In addition, within the framework of the meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin confirmed his visit to Uzbekistan in 2019. 
 
The Speaker of the State Duma also pointed out the achievements of Uzbekistan in the development of the Russian language, which is an interethnic communication in the Central Asian state. 
 
Branches of leading Russian universities: Moscow State University, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas successfully operate in Tashkent for a number of years. For the academic year 2018/19, Uzbekistan has been allocated 203 state scholarships in Russian universities. The total number of studying Uzbek citizens in Russia is more than 25 thousand people. According to this indicator, Uzbekistan is one of the leaders among the CIS member states.
