Ookla: Internet speed in Uzbekistan is getting even worse

Ookla Company of Ireland, which publishes ranking of mobile and fixed broadband Internet speeds from around the world on a monthly basis, announced data for October 2018.

Uzbekistan ranked 110th among 124 countries on mobile Internet speed (9.73 Mbps - download, 4.54 Mbps - distribution). This is even worse compared to the September ratings, where Uzbekistan occupied the 109th place.

However, we outrun Tajikistan (124th place), Afghanistan (123) and India (113) according to this indicator.

Kazakhstan took the 74th position with a download speed of 18.89 Mbps, Russia – 80th (17.81 Mbps), and Kyrgyzstan – 94th (14.89 Mbps).

As for the fixed broadband internet speed, Uzbekistan improved its performance by 2 steps – 112th (9.28 Mbps - download, 9.23 Mbps - distribution) compared to the previous month. In September, these figures were: 8.75 Mbps - download, 8.75 Mbps - distribution.

For comparison, Kazakhstan ranked 58th in speed of the fixed broadband internet (28.84 Mbps), Russia – 44th (42.97 Mbps), Kyrgyzstan – 79th (20.14 Mbps).

It should be recalled that at the beginning of the year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to drastically reduce prices for Internet access, and increase the connection speed at least four times by the end of the year and bring it to the level of the CIS countries by 2020.

It is worth noting that on November 14, Uzbektelecom promised to increase the speed of the Internet tenfold by December 1, 2018.
