US Special Secretary for Afghanistan to visit Uzbekistan in December
The special envoy of the US state secretary for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad will visit several countries in December, including Uzbekistan, Kun.uz correspondent reports referring to a statement from the State Department.
He will negotiate the promotion of the Afghan peace process and involvement of the Taliban terrorist movement in it.
“Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, special representative for the Afghan truce, will visit Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar with an inter-departmental delegation on December 2-20,” press service of the State Department noted.
It should be recalled that on November 29, at a conference on Afghanistan in Geneva, the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that the government is ready for talks with the “Taliban” as they have already formed a negotiating team led by the head of the presidential administration Abdul Salam Rakhimi. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov suggested a Moscow format for the talks.
Earlier, it was reported that the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Alan Meltzer, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Tashkent.
