President criticizes poor results in agriculture and serious shortcomings in cotton production
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 14 at a meeting held in Karshi defined the necessary structural changes in the economy of Kashkadarya region and spoke about measures need to be taken to ensure employment of the population, the press service of the President reported.
“To solve social issues, it is first of all necessary to improve the economy. In this regard, proposals on over 1,200 projects in industry, agriculture, services sector and other spheres are being developed for implementation in 2019-2020,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was noted that in the current year, more than 63 thousand foreign tourists visited the region. The president gave instructions to make every effort to develop tourism, turning Shakhrisabz into a festival city.
Poor results in agriculture and serious shortcomings in cotton production were criticized.
According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, transferring 52% of cotton areas to the cluster method, to double the export of finished products are the main tasks of the region for the coming year.
The head of state pointed to the possibility of growing grapes on 10 thousand hectares of land in Yakkabag, Kamashi, Shakhrisabz and Kitab districts, as well as watermelons on 20 thousand hectares of rain-fed lands of Chirakchi and Kasan districts.
