Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director General of the ILO

On December 14, immediately upon arrival from Kashkadarya region at the airport in Tashkent, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director General of the International Labor Organization Guy Ryder, who is on a visit in Uzbekistan, the presidential press service reported.

Warmly welcoming the guest, the head of our state especially noted that Uzbekistan highly appreciates the fruitful cooperation with the International Labor Organization, which for over 100 years of its activity contributed to the promotion of social justice and ensuring the rights of workers in the world.

Our country has been a full member of the International Labor Organization since 1992. So far, 14 conventions of the organization have been ratified, including 8 fundamental ones. On 28 February 201, a high-level ILO delegation, headed by Heinz Koller, ILO Assistant Director-General, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, visited Uzbekistan for signing of the extension of the Decent Work Country Programme of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2020 (DWCP).

Within the framework of this program, measures are being taken to improve the labor legislation of our country, to raise citizens’ awareness of labor rights and to strengthen the legal culture of the population.

Starting from 2018, National Coordinator at International Labor Organization has opened its office in Uzbekistan.

The meeting stressed mutual readiness to continue a constructive dialogue and expand partnership with the ILO on all issues, including new areas.

G. Ryder, expressing sincere gratitude to the head of our state for the cordial welcome, gave a high assessment to the social and economic policy of Uzbekistan at the new stage.

He particularly noted the ongoing Actions Strategy in the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021, which is consonant with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Evidence of fruitful cooperation is the successful holding of the international conference “Ensuring decent employment in the context of sustainable development goals: international practice and experience of Uzbekistan” in Tashkent.

The sides expressed confidence that the further expansion of the partnership will create a solid basis for deepening the dialogue and will effectively use the ILO’s experience in developing the National Employment Strategy in Uzbekistan.

An agreement was reached on the development and adoption of a Roadmap for long-term cooperation with the organization, continued work on ratifying the ILO conventions by our country, training and advanced training of specialists in the field of labor relations, support for the activities of trade unions and the Confederation of Employers.
