State Customs Committee: Citizens can only import one unit of household appliances once in 6 months now
After the introduction of new standards for duty-free import of products for individuals, the queues at checkpoints have more than halved, Kun.uz correspondent reports referring to Rustam Kabulov, the Head of Customs Control Department at the State Customs Committee.
“Before the adoption of new standards, the situation at checkpoints was really tense. So, there were queues that became a serious challenge for the elderly and young children. This situation arose because of people who misused the opportunities provided by importing goods illegally to Uzbekistan from neighboring countries. After the introduction of new norms for duty-free import, the queues have more than halved,” he said at a press conference in Tashkent.
Today, according to him, it takes about 1.5-2 minutes for a person to undergo customs procedures at checkpoints.
It is worth noting that earlier, many Uzbeks, including well-known experts, raised the problem of large queues at border checkpoints.
To change the situation, on October 17 of this year, new rules of duty-free import of products for individuals through passenger routes came into force in the country.
Now Uzbeks can deliver one unit of household appliances once in six months (previously - once a month), and 2 kilograms of food and other goods, but not more than 10 kilograms of total weight, once a month (previously - once a day).
