“Choosing a potential site for the construction of the first Nuclear Power Plant is yet to be determined” - UzAtom
Choosing a site for the construction of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan is a time-consuming job, Kun.uz correspondent reports citing Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, head of the Agency for Nuclear Energy Development.
According to him, this is not a question of one day or one month, examining the potential sites will be carried out until the end of 2019.
“Uzbekistan has chosen the most modern, safe and environmentally friendly technology. It has the latest active and passive safety systems,” the head of the agency noted.
“The first unit of the NPP will be commissioned by 2028,” Mr. Mirzamakhmudov added.
Initial works on this large-scale project are scheduled for 2020. In early September of this year, the Russian-Uzbek governmental heads signed a document of cooperation. “Rosatom” is planning to create a complex of two units of the generation “3+” with reactor facilities.
According to the preliminary calculations, in the future, NPP will be able to generate up to 20% of the total energy produced in the country.
