Uzatom: Safety remains top priority in nuclear plant construction
Uzbekistan is moving toward maximizing the local share in its landmark nuclear power plant (NPP) project. On March 24, Azim Akhmedkhodjayev, the Director of the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers (Uzatom), informed journalists that the current localization level stands at approximately 29-30%.
Speaking on the optimization of project costs, the head of Uzatom emphasized that any financial adjustments would not come at the expense of quality. He stressed that strict adherence to international safety requirements remains the non-negotiable priority of the agency.
The project aims to utilize domestic resources and services through a strategic partnership with the Russian state corporation, Rosatom.
"We have reached an agreement with Rosatom regarding the maximum localization of services provided, as well as the procurement of necessary construction materials for our station," stated Akhmedkhodjayev.
To achieve these goals, Uzatom is working closely with relevant national bodies, including the "Uzqurilishmateriallari" association, to assess the capabilities of local industrial enterprises. Furthermore, the Director noted that all materials used at the construction site must undergo rigorous laboratory testing and receive formal permits before being cleared for use.
