“Uzbeks, suspected of terrorist attacks is Sweden, to be charged soon” – SÄPO head
The Swedish security service (SÄPO) has prevented at least two terrorist attacks in the country over the past year, RIA Novosti reports.
Reportedly, in both cases the police arrested suspects for complicity in the preparation of various crimes.
“I think it is tragic that we have such a situation. We have about 3000 people who are in an extremist environment and who may be ready to resort to violence. We have two cases concerning this,” the head of SÄPO Klas Friberg said.
It was explained that in one of these cases, persons of Uzbek origin were detained in April of last year in Stockholm and Strömsund of Central Sweden. In April-October, the police detained a total of five people on the case of terrorist attacks not only from Uzbekistan, but also from Kyrgyzstan. The investigation into this case is almost over and the suspects will soon be charged. Mr. Friberg did not give any details about the plans for the suspects. It was reported that those arrested people deny any involvement in the crime.
It should be recalled that in April 2017, a native of Uzbekistan Rakhmat Okilov drove a truck onto people in one of the pedestrians in Stockholm. 5 people died, 15 were injured following the incident. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and is now serving his sentence in a special division of Kumla prison.
