Deputies discuss the draft law "On Personal Data"

The lower house of the parliament on the eve of the coming plenary session discussed the draft law “On Personal Data”.

“This draft law, which envisages the provision of important privileges aimed at further strengthening the basic rights of citizens in the digital age, ensuring that participants of personal data processing comply with established norms and rules, will provide citizens with the ability to control their personal data,” the lower house of the parliament noted.

At the same time, the legislators note, the document will simplify the procedures for the international transfer of personal data and ensure their protection regardless of where they are processed. Also, the adoption of the law will help prevent possible violations that may cause harm to citizens, in terms of the inviolability of privacy rights.

It should be recalled that in May this year, the document was published for public discussion on the portal of regulatory acts.

The document notes that without the consent of a person, any use of his personal data is prohibited. The exceptions are cases when data processing is carried out by law enforcement agencies in a criminal case, while countering the legalization of income derived from criminal activities, and also if the data are publicly available.

The draft law contains provisions on the cross-border transfer of personal data, stipulating that it can be implemented with the presence of existing international treaties, as well as the need to protect the constitutional order, protect public order, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and public health and morals.
