“Improvement of relations is one of important achievements” – Emomali Rahmon
The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon delivered a speech at the parliament and, among other achievements of the country in 2018, noted the improvement of relations with Uzbekistan, Tajik media reports.
He called the signing of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Development of Relations historic. According to Mr. Rahmon, in 2018 alone, over 2.5 million citizens from both sides exchanged mutual visits.
In addition, the head of the republic highly appreciated the commission of the Rogun hydropower plant’s first unit and noted the UN’s support of the “water” initiatives of Tajikistan.
In August, Emomali Rakhmon visited Uzbekistan for the first time in 17 years. Then the countries signed contracts for $130 million and inked a Joint Statement. The presidents also agreed on controversial issues about the state border, visited the Artel plant in Tashkent.
