Leader of “Uzbekenergo” proposed to introduce the ASCREC in the territory of Central Asian countries

Chairman of the Board of “Uzbekenergo” Ulugbek Mustafoyev proposed to integrate with South Korea's KT Corporation in the establishment of an automated system for controlling and recording electricity consumption (ASCREC) in the territory of Central Asia. Kun.uz correspondent reports about it.

“We intend to enter the market of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan together with you and train our specialists,” Mr. Mustafoyev said at a meeting with the Senior Vice President of KT Corporation Sung-In Kim.

According to the head of “Uzbekenergo”, Central Asian countries are “very much interested in the ASCREC”. “All our neighbors are closely observing this project. Its successful implementation in Uzbekistan opens the neighbor markets for us. South Korea’s KT will provide technologies and “Uzbekenergo” - cheap labor cost and open market”, Mr. Mustafoyev added.

In 2018, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a roadmap for increasing the production capacities, modernizing the electrical power grids, improving the electrical accounting and monitoring in 2018-2020. It also envisages connecting 7,8 million consumers to ASCREC and increasing the coverage of the system up to 100% from the total number of subscribers by the end of 2021. The project is being implemented in partnership with KT Corporation.

It should be recalled that in 2011, the Asian Bank allocated $150 million to Uzbekistan to install 1 million electricity meters in three regions – Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand. The project worth $207.4 million was planned to be completed by the end of 2018.

In addition, ADB's Board of Directors approved allocation of $300 million loan to the Uzbek government in 2015 to implement ASCREC in Andijan, Ferghana, Kashkadarya, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions.
