Mirziyoyev, Erdoğan to discuss prospects for strategic cooperation

On January 30, 2019, Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey, Mehmet Sureyya Er.

Accepting a copy of his credentials, the Minister warmly congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success.

Mehmet Sureyya Er thanked for the congratulations and assured that he uses all the experience of his previous activities, including as deputy president of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Development (TIKA), to make a worthy contribution to strengthening and developing relations between our countries and peoples.

During the conversation, the parties discussed topical issues of multi-faceted bilateral cooperation.

It was emphasized that the state visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Uzbekistan last spring and his fruitful negotiations with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev opened a new page in interstate relations.

According to the Uzbek side, in 2018, the volume of mutual trade increased by 40% and reached $2 billion 172 million, about 75 thousand Turkish citizens visited our country, which is almost two times more than the previous year. The same dynamics is observed in other areas of interaction.

At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the schedule and agenda of joint activities in 2019, pivotal among which should be the first meeting of the High Council for Strategic Cooperation chaired by the heads of two states. In this context, proposals for preparing the parties for the main event of the Uzbek-Turkish political dialogue in 2019 were considered.
