Military conscription terms in Uzbekistan to be changed

According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, the timing of conscription for military service in February-March causes a number of difficulties in ensuring the required temperature in the premises of recruiting and assembly points, including the increase in expenses for these purposes. In most cases, adverse weather conditions impede the timely arrival of draftees from remote areas of the republic to the assembly points. Additionally, poor condition of roads in winter adversely affects the implementation of draft arrangements.

To ensure implementation of the “Law on universal military duty and military service” and other normative documents on military service, high-quality implementation of the conscription for 2019, the Ministry of Defense and military districts together with local administrations carried out the necessary work.

At a meeting of the Security Council of the country held on November 28, 2018, Supreme Commander Shavkat Mirziyoyev made a proposal to postpone the recruitment to current military service and military dismissal from February-March to March-April. This was done to prevent annually recurring difficulties and for the convenience of citizens of the republic. Based on this, the Ministry of Defense has prepared a draft law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Law on universal military duty and military service”.

As a result of the movement of the conscription period from winter to spring, a reduction in the cost of holding draft events and increase in convenience for parents arriving at the points for seeing their children off to the army under adverse weather conditions.
