Public Council calls on the Ministry of Culture to preserve historical look of Tashkent

Irretrievable loss of architectural monuments reflecting the epochs, traditions, values and events of the city’s history and culture can become a problem for Tashkent. The Public Council at the capital's administration thinks so.

“The Public Council, within the framework of implementing the Law “On protection and use of cultural heritage objects”, seeks to prevent destruction of the historical memory and appearance of the city and calls upon the Ministry of Culture and the city authorities to take measures for this,” the statement said.

Activists of the Public Council made a list of the first 100 buildings of Tashkent, which still retain their unique historical appearance and originality. “The list should be publicly available so that its effective implementation is ensured under public scrutiny,” the council noted.

They also asked people for help in determining all the other buildings of historical-cultural importance to the city.

“Please be active and send us addresses and information about historical buildings, which are outstanding examples of architecture from different historical eras, related to specific events, ideas and beliefs, or of other universal value for us and future generations. Also, kindly share supporting documents, photographs,” the Public Council asks.

A special commission will be gathered for consideration, which will evaluate the objects according to the rules and criteria of legislation.
