Central Bank of Uzbekistan discloses information on military expenditures in 2018
The Central Bank has published data on the balance of payments and international investment position, as well as the total external debt of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2016-2018.
According to the regulator, in 2018, Uzbekistan bought weapons and ammunition, their parts and accessories from abroad for $0.7 million. Export in this area was not observed.
It should be noted that in 2018, Uzbekistan allocated 4% of its GDP for military expenditures.
In January 2017, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the time has already come to start creating Uzbekistan’s own military-industrial complex.
“…In this regard, it is necessary to work out the issue of education, under the leadership of the first deputy prime minister of the relevant state body responsible for implementing the unified policy in the defense industry, transferring to its membership all repair facilities of the Ministry of Defense, as well as the Chirchik Aviation Repair Plant and the state-owned enterprise,” the president said then.
In February 2018, the Defense Industry Development Fund was created at the State Committee on the Defense Industry of Uzbekistan.
