Umid Akhmatdjanov departs for Malaysia to participate in the AFC Congress
On April 6, the 29th Congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), where the main issue will be the election of the president of the organization for the 2019-2023 period. In addition, elections will be held for the AFC vice presidents, the AFC members of the FIFA Council, members of the Executive Committee of the AFC.
The president of the National Olympic Committee, the first vice-president of the Uzbekistan Football Association, the president of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Umid Akhmatdjanov will take part in the upcoming large-scale event.
It should be reminded that the Congress of the Central Asian Football Association was held in Bishkek earlier, in which delegates from the football federations of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan took part.
Then, all federations that are members of the CAFA expressed support for the current AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, who nominated himself for a new term.
Previously, three candidates were nominated for the presidency post: the current AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Saud Al-Mohannadi from Qatar and Mohamed Al-Romaiti from the United Arab Emirates. At the moment, there is only the current head of the organization.
For information, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa was elected President of AFC in May 2013. He announced his candidacy for the next AFC presidential elections at the meeting of the AFC Executive Committee in Tashkent last September.
