Uzbekistan, China to hold consultations on Afghan issues in Beijing
On April 8, Beijing will host Uzbekistan – China consultations on Afghan issues, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.
The event will be attended by the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev and the Special Envoy of the Foreign Ministry of the People’s Republic of China on the Afghan Affairs Deng Xijun.
It should be noted that in March 2018, in Tashkent, at the conference on resolving the situation in Afghanistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the Uzbek side is ready to provide the Afghan authorities and the Taliban with all the conditions for direct negotiations. The declaration at the end of the conference reflected a common position on the need for the earliest possible start of direct negotiations between the Government of Afghanistan and Taliban without setting any preconditions. In April of this year, it became known that the Uzbek authorities are proposing to hold talks in Samarkand.
