Compulsory medical insurance system to be introduced in Uzbekistan from 2021

In Tashkent, an event was held in which participants discussed the reform of financing healthcare in Uzbekistan.

During the event, it became known that Uzbekistan has already begun the work on introduction of a mechanism to improve the health financing system, determining the volume of state-guaranteed free medical care, the system of payment for medical services for the “treated case” by clinical-cost groups and new per capita financing mechanisms.

Also, in order to gradually introduce compulsory health insurance in the country, the legal framework of the system is being developed.  From 2021, its implementation will begin and, first of all, large organizations will be provided with compulsory insurance. It was noted that one of the main directions of further development of the sphere is improvement of the country's health financing system.

Reforming this area is aimed at ensuring equal access to medical services and financial protection of the population, as well as equitable distribution of resources.
