Deputy Prosecutor General: Death penalty is not a solution
On June 17, a briefing was held in the conference hall of the Information and Mass Communications Agency with the participation of officials from the Prosecutor General's Office, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
During the event, Deputy Prosecutor General Erkin Yuldashev spoke about the fight against corruption in Uzbekistan. According to him, introducing a death penalty as a punishment for corrupt officials does not always help.
“The death penalty is not a solution. The use of capital punishment in China is their internal affair. Once there was a death penalty in our legislation, but later on the basis of international experience and in order to respect human rights, it was abolished,” Erkin Yuldashev noted.
As the prosecutor said, currently, punishment for corruption is tightened in Uzbekistan.
