Shavkat Mirziyoyev abolishes nine laws
The President of Uzbekistan signed the law “On approval of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
With the adoption of the Code, the followings have been annulled:
- the law “On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”;
- the law “On elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”;
- the law “On elections to regional, district and city councils of people's deputies”;
- the law “On guarantees of electoral rights of citizens”;
- the law “On amendments to the legislation on elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan”;
- the law “On the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan”;
- the law “On amendments and addenda to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on elections to regional, district and city Councils of People’s Deputies”;
- the law “On amendments and addenda to the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and “On elections to regional, district and city Councils of People’s Deputies” in connection with further ensuring freedom of election and the development of electoral legislation.
The document states that the above law comes into force on the date of its official publication, that is, from June 26, 2019.
It should be recalled that the new Electoral Code unifies the norms of existing laws on elections regulating relations linked to ensuring guarantees of electoral rights of citizens, preparation and conduct of presidential elections, Oliy Majlis, regional, district and city councils of people’s deputies, and activities of the Central Election Commission.
