Excise tax rates on alcohol and tobacco products produced in Uzbekistan increase by 20%

In accordance with the presidential decree signed in December 2018, excise tax rates on alcohol and tobacco products produced in Uzbekistan increased by 20% starting from July 1.
Earlier it was reported that the tobacco market of Uzbekistan is estimated at around $500 million. The average smoker in the country smokes 10 cigarettes per day.
Men consume tobacco products more actively - 90% of the total number of smokers. At the same time, 70% of the smoking population smoked for more than five years. The cost of the average pack at current prices in the market is 8,313 soums.
The market is almost equally divided between the low-price (below 7,500 soums) and middle-price (7,500–1,000 soums) segments. The premium segment (over 11,000 soums) takes less than 3% of the market.
