US Congressman Trent Kelly praises Uzbek Government’s policy on protecting the rights of believers

On July 17, 2019, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is on a working visit in Washington, held talks with Congressman Trent Kelly, Co-Chair of Caucus on Uzbekistan, the MFA press service reports.

During the talks, a wide range of issues on the Uzbek-US bilateral agenda was considered. As noted by Congressman Trent Kelly, over the past three years, Uzbekistan and the United States have managed to create a solid foundation for further development of cooperation, both at federal and regional levels.

Special attention was paid to discussing ways to further intensify inter-parliamentary relations, organize visits of Congress members to Uzbekistan, and study the best practices of the United States in the field of lawmaking by Uzbek parliamentarians. The parties exchanged views on enhancing instruments of parliamentary diplomacy.

Congressman Trent Kelly welcomed the participation of Uzbekistan delegation in the second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom. He praised the Government’s policy on protecting the rights of believers and expressed readiness to assist in deepening the dialogue in this direction with the Congress.

Trent Kelly, who represents the State of Mississippi in the House of Representatives, is ready to promote cooperation between business representatives of Uzbekistan and his state in such areas as cotton growing, poultry farming, water management, fisheries and textiles. The Congressman voiced readiness to assist in development of cooperation of the country with other states, the legislators of which are represented in Caucus on Uzbekistan.

The parties considered several other regional issues during the talks.
