According to Yusupov, metro specialists regularly visit countries with advanced underground transport systems to study new technologies, operating practices and approaches to safe and comfortable passenger services. Such visits include European countries, Turkey, Russia and Kazakhstan.
China has received particular attention, with Uzbek specialists examining new infrastructure, production processes and the latest types of rolling stock. They are also assessing their passenger comfort and potential suitability for use in Uzbekistan.
“Negotiations are under way on the possibility of using and operating new types of rolling stock produced in China in Uzbekistan in the future, subject to approval, and cooperating in this area,” Yusupov said.
Tashkent Metro announced plans in November 2025 to purchase 56 new carriages, or 14 trainsets. Over the previous four years, the capital’s metro system had received 41 new trainsets manufactured by Russia’s Metrovagonmash, bringing the total fleet to 75 trains.
The Ministry of Transport said in July that the share of the metro’s rolling stock that had been renewed reached 54% following the latest deliveries. The figure is expected to rise to 59% by the end of this year.
