Otabek Umarov sets example for other statesmen, pays fine for speeding

The chairman of the triathlon federation of Uzbekistan Otabek Umarov has been fined for violating traffic rules.
On social networks, a video, which shows Otabek Umarov driving his Tesla car at high speed (up to 201 kilometers per hour) on the streets of Tashkent during the night time, went viral.
Otabek Umarov said on his social networking pages that he has voluntarily paid a fine for violating traffic rules.
“Recently, a video, in relation to me, appeared on mass media and social networks. I think, it shows that our president's policy of openness and freedom of expression is in effect.
It is delightful that journalists and bloggers are really raising the issues that we have in our real life. Criticizing people, regardless of their position, encourages us to work even more and to comply with the order established.
All the fines have been paid today. The law is equal for all!
Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my gratitude to the local and foreign media workers,” he said.
It goes without saying that recent reforms in Uzbekistan, especially in the field of freedom of expression, have been yielding positive results.
Otabek Umarov admitted his mistake and set a good example for all other statesmen.
For information, when a driver exceeds the established speed limit in residential places, according to Article 128-3 of the Administrative Responsibility Code of Uzbekistan, he will have to pay a fine of 9 times MMW, that is, 1,824,000 soums.
