Akhatov: Uzbekistan cannot claim the role of a developed state without a positive image

Positive image of Uzbekistan in the international arena will contribute to the realization of the national interests of the country. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Dilshod Akhatov today, Kun.uz correspondent reports.

“A country without a positive international image cannot claim to be a developed state. Moreover, it becomes vulnerable to external economic and political challenges,” said Akhatov, speaking at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan.

According to him, the country's leadership made a “demanded decision to give priority attention to the issues of actively promoting the republic’s positive external image.”

“This matters not only as a factor contributing to the realization of national interests and foreign policy initiatives of the state, but also as a mechanism contributing to the creation of the necessary favorable conditions for economic development: export promotion, attracting foreign investment and technology, and increasing tourist flow,” the deputy minister said .

Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with other ministries, is developing the concept of a positive image of Uzbekistan in the international arena, Akhatov said. He pointed out that Uzbekistan has all the components for creating an attractive image. This is a centuries-old culture, history, reinforced values of tolerance and hospitality, as well as resource potential.

“We must properly manage our potential and direct it to the right channels to promote a positive image. Uzbekistan is interested in continuing to actively enter into world economic relations, deepening partnership with a wide range of states and international organizations,” Akhatov stated.

The transformations taking place in the country, he noted, increase interest in Uzbekistan.

“There is widespread international support for the ongoing policy of openness, good neighborliness and cooperation, which contributed to the creation in Central Asia of a fundamentally new political atmosphere of trust, mutual understanding and respect for interests,” the Deputy Foreign Minister added.
