Jakhongir Artikhodjayev proposes to introduce metrobus in Tashkent
On July 25, the final presentation of the export-import bank of South Korea on the topic “Supporting the development strategy of the integrated public transport system of Tashkent” was held at the Tashkent city administration.
Several issues were discussed at the meeting, including the introduction of the bus rapid transit system, a high-speed bus system. Khokim of the capital Jakhongir Artikhodjayev proposed to implement one such project in Tashkent.
Bus rapid transit (high-speed bus transport or metrobus) is a way of organizing a bus (or trolleybus) routes, which is distinguished by higher performance characteristics than conventional bus routes (speed, reliability, carrying capacity).
From conventional bus transport systems, high-speed systems differ in one or more features.
• Trails are on dedicated lanes (fully or mostly). At intersections, buses have advantages;
• Often, non-standard buses are used, such as articulated multi-section;
• On some systems, the stops remind of rail transport stations: they are closed on all sides, have ticket and help desks, are equipped with turnstiles (which contributes to a quicker boarding of passengers on the bus, since checking and buying tickets is done before boarding the bus);
• Some systems use guided buses.
Systems of this type are most popular in South and North America. One of the first systems was the Rede Integrada de Transporte, which has been operating in Brazilian Curitiba since the 1980s:
Examples of high-speed bus lines in the US are the Silver Line (a trolleybus) in Boston, and the Orange Line in Los Angeles.
