Monument to Alisher Navoiy unveiled in Minsk

A bust to Uzbek poet Alisher Navoiy has been unveiled during the first Forum of Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus, BelTA reported from the solemn ceremony.
The monument was set up in the mini-park on Sverdlova Street, Minsk.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairperson of Belarus' Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis Sadik Safayev and Minsk Deputy Mayor Aleksandr Krepak.
The bust was designed by young sculptor Maksim Makarevich.
Alisher Navoiy was an outstanding poet, philosopher and statesman of the 15th century. He wrote in the Chagatai, Persian, and Turkic languages. Alisher Navoiy produced about 30 major works, including collections of poems and works on philosophy.
