GDP growth in Uzbekistan reaches 5.8% in Jan-August
The XXI plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis has begun its work on August 23. Delivering a speech at the plenary session, the Senate Speaker Tanzila Narbayeva announced statistics on development indicators.
“Unlike previously reported figures on paper, GDP growth in 2019 reached 5.8% in practice. This shows the real effect of the reforms,” Kun.uz correspondent quotes the Senate Chairperson as saying.
According to the Chairperson, while most of the positive indicators in Uzbekistan were mainly related to production or services in the agricultural sector, industrial growth was around 7% in the first half of this year.
“In 2019, it is planned to implement more than 60 projects worth about $4.5 billion in the oil and gas, chemical and energy sectors. For the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, the share of investment in GDP exceeded 38%. In total, 86 trillion soums of investments were disbursed. Within the framework of the program “Obod qishloq” (“Prosperous village”), landscaping works were carried out in about 480 villages of 160 districts. It is also planned to complete the construction of 10,000 houses and 110 multi-apartment buildings by the end of this year. More than 180 agricultural products of the country are being exported to 80 states worlwide,” the Senate Chairperson said.
Narbayeva stated that 100 billion soums were allotted this year to support women’s entrepreneurship. About 1,800 projects have been implemented to ensure employment of women and around 2,300 jobs have been created.
