Uzbekistan bans import of energy-intensive equipment into the country
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on accelerated measures to increase energy efficiency in economic and social sectors, introducing energy-saving technologies and developing renewable energy sources.
According to the document, starting from September 1, 2019, the import of used generating equipment, power step-down transformers, electric motors, as well as energy-consuming equipment of energy efficiency category D is prohibited.
The President instructed, by October 15, 2019, to approve the methodology for determining the indicators of improving energy efficiency and saving fuel as well as energy resources. Until October 20, 2019, a list of sectors of the economy should be compiled by energy-intensive enterprises to further evaluate their energy efficiency and saving the natural resources.
By the end of the year, it is also expected that targets will be approved to increase energy efficiency and saving fuel and energy resources by industry, providing for the achievement of savings of at least 2.4 billion kWh of electric energy, 2.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 20 thousand tons of oil products in 2020-2022.
