Oliy Majlis senators approved the law on equal rights of women and men and on the protection of women from oppression and violence, Sputnik Uzbekistan reports.
The text of the document states that women and men have equal rights in hiring, managing the affairs of society and the state, and in family relations. Also, domestic work cannot be the basis for direct or indirect discrimination based on gender, it is carried out equally by women and men.
An employer must ensure equal opportunities for employment, the same level of salary and labor assessment, and equal social protection based on the Labor Code of Uzbekistan.
If an employee believes that he/she has been subjected to direct or indirect discrimination on the basis of sex, he/she has the right to apply to the authorized bodies or the court without paying a state duty.
Implementation of a single state policy aimed at achieving equal rights and opportunities for women and men in all spheres of society is entrusted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
At the Senate meeting, the law “On protection of women from harassment and violence” was approved. The document defines the types of violence and concepts.
Violence is divided into:
• psychological;
• physical;
• sexual;
• economic.
The concepts of “victim”, “oppression” and “protective order” are also defined.
The document provides for development and implementation of gender policies, government programs and strategies to protect women from oppression and violence and to increase legal awareness in the society. Victim of harassment and violence will receive a protection order. It is issued by the internal affairs bodies within 24 hours from the moment the fact of oppression and violence or the threat of violence was established, for a period of up to 30 days and comes into force from the moment of execution.
