OSCE Secretary General commends Uzbekistan’s efforts to ensure freedom of speech
On September 24, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Thomas Greminger in New York, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
During the conversation, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening and expanding bilateral ties.
The OSCE Secretary General praised the measures taken in Uzbekistan to ensure freedom of speech.
Thomas Greminger welcomed the efforts of the leadership of Uzbekistan to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections in December in conditions of transparency and fairness, in full accordance with international democratic standards. The OSCE Secretary General said that the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is ready for the first time to send a full-fledged delegation to the country as international observers.
At the meeting, the parties considered other issues related to strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE.
