Russia plans to electrify railways in Uzbekistan
Russian Railways plans to sign a contract with Uzbekistan on electrification of a section of the Bukhara-Urgench-Khiva railway line, RIA Novosti reports.
“I hope that in the near future we will sign a contract. We are now specifying its cost. The work is scheduled to begin next year,” the First Deputy Director General of the Russian Railways Alexander Misharin said during the meeting of the CIS Railway Council.
In September of this year, Russian Railways reported that together with their Uzbek counterparts, they were studying the possibility of participating in electrification of the Bukhara-Urgench-Khiva railway section.
The company then spoke about its interest in joining the work of the Chinese-Kyrgyz-Uzbek working group on the project for construction of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway line.
