Media: Tajikistan transfers 300 hectares of land along with a gold deposit to Uzbekistan
Tajikistan, on the basis of bilateral agreements, transfers 300 hectares of land to Uzbekistan. The Tajik publication Faraj reported about it.
These lands currently belong to the Matchinsky district of the Sughd region. Reportedly, there is also a gold deposit on the territory of these lands, which in recent years has been developed by the Tajik-Canadian joint venture Aprelevka. The deposit, according to Faraj, is located near the village of Obi Shifo.
The head of the land committee of the Sughd region Jamshed Umarzoda, in a telephone conversation with a Faraj correspondent, said that “now this issue is under consideration and only the government of Tajikistan can comment on this topic”.
And the head of the border troops in the area of the Matchinsky district, Karimzoda, declined to answer the question about the fate of the transferred lands: “Our task is to protect the borders, answering to this question is not in our competence”.
