Cotton share in the export of agricultural products decreases from 11.3% to 1.6%

The share of cotton in the export of agricultural products decreased from 11.3% in 2010 to 1.6% in 2018, follows from the presidential resolution.

The document notes that in recent years, consistent measures have been taken to reform agriculture and introduce market mechanisms into the industry.

In particular, in agriculture, a cluster method of production has been established, the area of   agricultural land allotted to clusters for crops is 67% in the cotton and textile industry, 8% - livestock, and 7.5% - horticulture.

Today, more than 80 types of agricultural products produced in the republic are exported to 66 countries of the world. “If in 2010 cotton fiber accounted for 11.3% of export, then in 2018 this figure dropped to 1.6%,” the document says.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the absence of a systematic organization of effective market mechanisms in the industry, especially in the development of horticulture and viticulture, as well as its insufficient scientific approach, lead to the incomplete use of the industry’s opportunities.

Calculations show that in relation to raw cotton grown on 1 hectare of land, grapes make it possible to obtain 7-fold, cherry - 6-fold, walnut - 5-fold profit.
