Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives Honorary Doctorate from Nagoya University

For the enormous contribution to the development of the sphere of education, as well as the full support of science and academic exchanges, in recognition of the new phase of reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to liberalize the economy and achieve sustainable development, the Scientific Council of Nagoya University decided to award a high degree of Honorary Doctorate of the University to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the presidential press service, the solemn ceremony of awarding was held at the University with the participation of management, Nobel laureates, scientists, professors and teachers, students of this educational institution.

President of Nagoya University Seiichi Matsuo spoke at the ceremony and noted that the head of Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of relations between the two countries in the field of science, and this decision reflects the desire of the parties to further expand long-term and promising cooperation in the field of education.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that in addition to similar national and moral values, the peoples of Uzbekistan and Japan share such a noble quality as a constant desire for science and knowledge, as well as achieving excellence. He emphasized that currently, human capital, intellectual potential, innovative ideas and high technology constitute the fundamental basis of accelerated and sustainable development.

“I perceive this title primarily as an expression of respect to the people of Uzbekistan and express my deep gratitude to the leadership and scientific team of Nagoya University,” Mirziyoyev said.

The head of state spoke about large-scale reforms in the field of education and science in Uzbekistan.

Noting the great work done in the Uzbek-Japanese cooperation, the President also pointed to the presence of unused opportunities and put forward a number of proposals. In order to further expand cooperation, he proposed the creation of an Uzbek-Japanese fund for scientific and academic exchanges and technology transfer.

This fund will serve to finance joint scientific research projects of young people and to implement exchange programs between students and teachers.

As a sign of friendship between Uzbekistan and Japan, President Mirziyoyev handed over to the Nagoya University library a number of books and albums published in our country in Japanese and Uzbek.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a short conversation with students of the university.
