Italian citizen found dead in a rented apartment in Tashkent

According to the press service of the Central Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), the body of Gheno Giorgio was found by the owner of the apartment on February 16.

“No signs of violence were found during the search of his apartment and body had no injuries. A forensic medical examination has now been ordered to determine the cause of death,” the police department reported in a statement.

Currently, an inquiry is being conducted on this fact.

According to Tashkent’s Migration and Citizenship Services, Gheno Giorgio arrived in Tashkent as a tourist on February 9, 2020 and on February 10, through online services, registered in an apartment in Mirabad district, which he rented through a representative of the Italian Embassy in Uzbekistan for a period of 30 days.

On February 16, representatives of the embassy came to the apartment where the man lived after relatives of Gheno Giorgio raised alarm that he had not been in contact since February 10. Nobody opened the door, and they called the landlady of the apartment, who was witness when the body was found.

According to the Tashkent city branch of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Forensic Medicine, the death of Gheno Giorgio occurred a few days before the discovery of the body.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gheno Giorgio flew to Tashkent on February 9 from Malaysia.

During the interview, the landlord reported that on February 10, in a telephone conversation, the young man complained of his malaise, and since that day they never spoke. The neighbors said that they were not aware that someone had settled in the apartment, because they had not heard the noise, had not seen anyone entering or leaving the apartment.

“Inquiry into the death of the Italian citizen continues,” the police department concluded.
