Senate members heard information from the Interior Minister on the works done in 2019 to prevent crime in the country.
The Minister noted that the number of crimes decreased by 3,139 (10.5%) in 2019 compared to the same period a year earlier. Not a single crime was committed in 3,074 mahallas (33.7%) out of 9,116 throughout the republic.
At the same time, as noted in the Senate, the study showed that the activities of the internal affairs bodies have certain shortcomings, problems awaiting solutions, and untapped opportunities.
Work to identify and solve social problems of the population is not organized at the proper level, in many cases family scandals remain without the attention of mahalla activists and prevention inspectors, which leads to the commitment of more serious crimes.
In addition, despite the fact that the Law “On the protection of women from harassment and violence” was adopted on September 2, 2019, the corresponding order of the Interior Ministry in this direction was adopted only on February 3, 2020. Thus, a protective custody warrant was issued only to 3 women, who were subjected to violence. At the same time, 70 (49.2%) of the 142 murder cases recorded in 2019 were committed due to quarrels between spouses.
As problems of women experiencing difficult living conditions have not been completely resolved, 5,032 women have committed crimes. Especially, this indicator is high in the city of Tashkent, Fergana and Tashkent regions.
