Temporary closure of borders between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan did not affect the transportation of products and goods, including vegetables and fruits.

According to East-fruit, the greenhouse products of Uzbekistan are exported to the Tajik market in the same volumes as they did before the quarantine caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“This will stabilize the prices of tomatoes, cucumbers and other products that are imported from Uzbekistan to the neighboring republic,” the publication said.
Greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers of Uzbekistan are often superior in quality compared to Tajik greenhouse products, as Uzbekistan has more innovative greenhouses with modern agricultural technologies. In Tajikistan, such greenhouses began to operate only recently. For example, a large hydroponic greenhouse was launched by “Bars” firm in the Bobojon Gafurov district, while “Vitamins of Tajikistan” CJSC is building a complex of 4 greenhouses on 4 hectares in the Spitamen district, one of which has already begun operating.
Currently, greenhouse tomatoes produced in Uzbekistan cost 18 somoni ($1.76) in the Tajik market, although a few days ago they were sold for 20 -22 somoni ($1.96-2.15) per 1 kg. The wholesale price of the product is 16 somoni ($1.56) per 1 kg.
The retail price for cucumbers is 12 somoni ($1.17), while the wholesale price is 10 somoni ($0.98).
Tomatoes and cucumbers grown in Tajik greenhouses are 1-2 ($0.01-0.02) somoni cheaper than Uzbek products. The prices of Uzbek products are also affected by transport and customs costs.
Foreign drivers are not allowed to enter the territory of Tajikistan. Unloading of goods takes place right at border points, and the delivery of goods to the destination is carried out by local carriers.
