On July 15, it was reported that the enterprises would stop operations due to a drop in demand for their products. “Foreign partners stopped the supply of raw materials, seeing that the factories were on the verge of bankruptcy,” a representative of “Angren-Shakar” told Kun.uz. The interlocutor stressed that the market is filled with imported sugar, and local producers are unable to compete on price.

“The suspension of the activities of enterprises is temporary. The purpose of their suspension is to carry out cleaning and repair work in production,” the Antimonopoly Committee told Kun.uz.

In total, the enterprises have more than 47 thousand tons of finished products in their warehouses, sugar shipments continue.

According to the Committee, in July, enterprises sold 12 thousand tons of sugar at exchange auctions. In particular, on July 16, “Angren-Shakar” put up 650 tons of sugar and “Khorazm-Shakar” – 350 tons for sale.

Until the end of the repair work, the enterprises have a sufficient amount of finished products to be placed at the auction. Then they plan to resume sugar production, the Committee said.
