AFC Champions League: Pakhtakor reaches quarter-finals defeating Esteghlal
FC Pakhtakor defeated Esteghlal FC 2-1 in the 2020 AFC Champions League Round of 16 at Al Janoub Stadium on Saturday, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009.
Despite Pakhtakor’s clear dominance in the first half, Esteghlal took the lead when Ali Karimi realized the free-kick in the 32nd minute of the match. Pakhtakor had the chance to equalize the score just two minutes before the end of the half. Dragan Ceran delivered a diving header past Hosseini to draw Pakhtakor level.
Eren Derdiiyok’s 47th goal gave the Uzbek side the lead in the game and this score remained unchanged till the end of the match.
Pakhtakor join Al Ahli Saudi FC in the last eight as the Round of 16 continues with two games on Sunday.
